Last Tuesday (Sep. 15), the Latin Recording Academy, which promotes the Latin Grammy, the most important award of Latin American Music, made an important announcement: Djavan will receive the Music Excellence Award for his legacy to Latin music and culture.
Moved, the alagoano expressed his gratitude for the nomination: “It makes me very happy to receive this award that contemplates my work and my career. I’d like to thank the Academy for this and other awards I’ve received, as they represent great motivation for my work”.
Djavan has a beautiful history with the Latin Grammy. In 2000, he was awarded with “Best Brazilian Music” with the song “Acelerou”, and in 2011, his album “Ária” was chosen “Best Album of Brazilian Popular Music”.
The artist was the only Brazilian nominated for this honorable mention in the 16th edition of the Award with a small group of artists from Spain, Cuba, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Porto Rico, Chile and Venezuela. The tribute to the artists honored will be held in a ceremony for guests on November 18th, at the KÀ Theatre of the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, United States.
